We are on a semi-first-name basis?

I'm confused.

I know that "on first name basis" means:

" When you know someone well enough that you call them by their first name. "

but add a "semi" here ,it means:

1) we know each other well enough that we call their sime-first-name,for example.

calling Rachel Green as Rach shows we are so close.

2) we are just on the half way to become a "first name basis" relationship.

that means we are not that much close.

which one is correct?

Thank you!

'Semi-first-name basis' (if anyone uses it) would mean that the relationship is not quite a familiar one yet. First names are sometimes used, and sometimes more formal names.
