Hi

What is the meaning of gateway here? Also, why isn't the there before house?

We are bored to death, counting the hours till getaway. The packers came yesterday; house is empty.

(the family is going to Germany forever--and of their own accord)

It's getaway not gateway. The lack of "the" before house is probably due to stylistic reasons
