Way too

Hello
I would like to know why in some phrases people use "way too",for example in these verbs of a Montgomery Gentry song:

"He works way too much for way too little"
"He drinks way too early til way too late"

Can I simply eliminate the way in these phrases, or the "way" changes the meaning.

Thanks
