Way to go

Can I use "way to go" as a synonym of good job, great!, very good... in any circumstances? ex.: to cheer a marathoner while running; to congratulate with a student for a good report card; for the achievements of a colleague in job carrier... I stop here with examples!

Well, definition the http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=way%20to%20go seems to suggest that you can. I cannot say more - I never use those words. Perhaps younger members will give their opinions.

Yes, you certainly can, but by my estimate, you may be about twenty years behind the times. Frankly, I don't know if many people are still using that expression.

That's what I wish to know. Thanks. Some expression, like way to go, could be grammatically correct but weird. I heard it in a BBC documentary (a brend new documentary!) few weeks ago, anyway!!!

Every once in a while, I visit forums where people use "killing it" to mean that someone is doing something exceptionally well:

You're killing it, man!

You stay killin' it. (= You're constantly doing great work.)

I don't recommend using those expressions, though, as they are extremely informal.
