Way of being

" Down's Syndrome is not a disease. It's just a way of being. It's beautiful." I saw this as a comment in one of the YouTube videos about a child with Down's Syndrome being adopted by a single parent. What does the phrase "way of being" mean here? Does "way" mean the manner in which?Does "being" mean any living thing?Which sense of the preposition "of" is used here?
