Wave

In as short a time as Mr. Collins's long speeches would allow, every thing was settled between them to the satisfaction of both; and as they entered the house, he earnestly entreated her to name the day that was to make him the happiest of men,; and though such a solicitation must be waved for the present, the lady felt no inclindation to trifle with his happiness.

What does 'wave' mean here?

Thanks in advance

You know, I've read that book several times, and never paused on that sentence before. I think it means that Charlotte can't answer that question right away, because her parents had to be consulted. If you enjoy it, you might enjoy Pride and Prejudice and Zombies .

Thanks!
I enjoyed the book a lot.

Could 'wave' be an alternate spelling of 'waive' at that time?

That's what I think. But perhaps someone who has studied more literature of that era can tell us.
