Water was filling up halfway

A bucket of water was filling up from a tab, it(water) more than halfway when I looked at it, and I shouted when it was rising almost to the edge of the bucket, "hey, please close the tab, it is filling up/it is going to overflow".

Please correct my sentence and suggest me better version too.
