Watch as

Brad and his camera man watch as the reporter from the competing news channel is doing a live report.

- Is "watch as" correct?

- Is the whole sentence written naturally?

They don't stand right by the reporter watching him. They watch him from a distance. If I want to make that clear, is the sentence below correct?

Brad and his camera man watch from a distance as the reporter from the competing news channel is doing a live report.

They are fine, except in the US it's "cameraman". I am not sure about the UK. Also, your use of the progressive "is doing" implies a context that I can't divine.
