Wat is de use of 'rather'?

hey anyone explain to me what is the use of rather or rether than??

i can't understand it

i just understand it's same to 'more than' !! am i right??

Heres a good example of using the word "Rather" "Rather than spending his money on the movies, Adama gave his money to the poor" Rather is not the same as using "More than" lol You would use "Rather" when making a statement about doing one action instead of another! Example # 2 I would prefer to eat the salad rather than taking the burger. I hope this helps!
