Dear members!

Could you please tell why C is the right choice? Why it's not D? Do those 10 minutes that passed between the two reportings count?

Akiko: "Were you in school yesterday." (Akiko asks you the question 10 minutes before you report it to Yuta.)

A. Akiko asked me if I were in school yesterday.

B. Akiko asked me if I was in school the day before.

C. Akiko asked me if I was in school yesterday.

D. Akiko asked me if I had been in school yesterday.
