was(were) fired/got fired

are both possible? which one s better (sounds more natural) ?

In Brit English we would usually say got fired.

oral = got fired

writing = were fired

When speaking of myself, and therefore trying to disclaim that I deserved it in any way, I would say that I was fired. Speaking of you or others, thinking you probably did something to deserve it, I would say that you got fired.
