Was/were

Hi everybody,

1) She spoke very loudly as if I was deaf.

2) She spoke very loudly as if I were deaf.

Could you please tell me which sentence is correct?

Thank you

Hi, I tough 'I were' was a fantasy, a slang speaking (eg: If I were a boy by beyonce). For me, the first sentence is correct but i am sure so if anyone can enlight us it would be nice.
