KickingCatI asked the student who was here yesterday.

I asked the student who were here yesterday.

what's the difference?

The differenec is noun to verb agreement. first one is correct because "student" is a single noun and the verb should be "was".

The 2nd one "were" was used which is incorrect.

Hi,

I just finished answering this in the Basic English Forum. Please don't post queries in two places, as it makes more work.
