Wasn't looking/didn't look

Person: When he first got diagnosed the prognosis was encouraging.

Another person: So when did the doctor let you know it wasn't looking/didn't look quite as encouraging anymore?

anonymous What's your preference here? Speaking for myself, I would hope to say "didn't look". The progressive comes off glib whenever it isn't strictly called for.
