Wasn't anywhere/nowhere near

Hi Forum.

What's wrong with this sentence?

'He wasn't anywhere near sleep'

The 'was' part should be positive here? Since we have a double negation?

Or could it be 'nowhere near sleeping'?

Thanks in advance!
