wasn't afraid or didn't afraid

Hello to everyone! Sorry, I went back again to what I have already done!

I wrote a sentence:

The cat came so closely to the people that it seemed like she didn't afraid them.

It was incorrect and one of a native speakers corrected me to "wasn't.
I have to write, using "wasn't"

The cat came so closely to the people that it seemed like she wasn't afraid them.

My question: Why "didn't"was wrong? Emotion: sadEmotion: sad I have forgotten the rule and don't know how to find the answer.
Kind regards and sorry for the same questions.

Did you mean you thought afraid was a verb? You can’t put a noun after didn’t; you need a verb.
