Was/had been & concerned

1) My friend was / had been absent from school for a few days.

I'm writing a composition and relating a story in the past. So, I should use past simple or past perfect for above sentence?

2) a) I was concerned her.

b) I was concerned about her.

C) I was concerned for her.

Since she did not come to school, I was worried. Which one is correct? Thanks.
