Wash over/come over

And then a feeling of happiness starts to wash/come over her.

Can I just use "come" in this sentence with the same meaning as I think "wash" sounds a little too poetic?

If not, what else could I use?

Top answer

And then a feeling of happiness starts to come over her. That's fine. Are you sure you want to start a sentence with 'and'?
