Vocabulary

Wash out / clean out / get out

- What would you do, Ben? (Ben is a shoesine boy)
- I would buy a ton of soap to wash the shoe polish out of my hands.

I don't know if it's better to use here wash out, clean out, get out... or just wash.

"Wash out" is apt because "wash" means clean, and "out" tells you that the shoe polish has gotten into the creases in the skin of Ben's hands.

"Get out" also works, but misses the connotation of clean.

"Clean out" doesn't work, possibly because of its other slang meanings.
