Was working / worked

Hi,

"How was your weekend?"
"Busy. I worked last weekend."
"Busy. I was working last weekend."

Either "worked" and "was working" is grammatically acceptable, right?

Grammatically, yes, but I would naturally use the second answer.

Actually, just to add, in reality one would say "Busy. I was working." There is no need to repeat "last weekend".

Yes, but you can also say "I was busy working". That's probably what I'd say.

'to be busy' is one of those expressions that can be followed directly by a participle construction.
