Was told to write a paper on individualism. Is this any good?
I realize the structure is a little irregular, but are analytic/critical thinking skills apparent? I am not finished with it yet but how does it look so far?
The goal of the individual is not to stand out amongst the common man. To stand alone is the result of a man that is full of conviction in his beliefs;even when those beliefs are gravely forbidden. Individuals have little concern for the perceptions of others. In the midst of his struggle, the isolated man can feel the hating eyes of the majority as he continues his quest for self expression. When he tells his wife what is to come of his righteousness, she abandons him for she knows that by staying she is an accomplice to his beliefs. Still, the individual presses onward and consistently focuses on what is deemed as morally right within himself. When the law interferes with his beliefs, he practices civil disobedience. He will murder others if it is right within himself. He will withhold his earnings if he is morally obligated to do so. After he has defied authority, he must then face the consequences of his actions, (or the lack thereof). The judicial system of the people will determine to what degree this man will be punished. Unbeknownst to this collective body, a man that is internally free cannot be punished. Internally free men might also be labeled as anarchists, deviants, or men of no sanity. Quite often, such claims are accurate, but only because the majority determines what is sane and what is not. The majority also has expectations for each residing person. These expectations range from paying taxes to stopping at a stop sign. Under certain circumstances, free men have great respect for the expectations that are placed upon them.. They are gifted in seeing the core motives of designed laws or expectations and unlike others who migt share the same ability, the true individual takes action to fight against whichever law or expectation he or she feels is unnecessary. In today's society, people are quick to protest laws and expectations that they are against. Recently, angry college students stormed the Sacramento capital building holding picket signs in hope of getting tuition rates lowered.(add source) Once the CEO of Chick-fil-A made a remark about homosexuals, gay rights activists initiated a "same sex kiss day" at the restaurant chain. The list goes on and on. Apparently, the idea of individualism has become favored by the majority. The modern protestor cannot be labeled as an individual because protesting is But the majority is unaware of this notion. Most people would probably consider themselves individuals because no one wants to admit that they are lacking the individual freedom that comes with the title. Individual freedom is much more than being able to do whatever you want to do. The term might also refer to the lack of constraint from different thoughts or behaviors. Unfortunately, most people are either common men, or common women. A "common man" is a term that refers to the average person. If you are reading this and you are not sure which category you fit in to, you are common. Common people may exhibit different beliefs and attitudes from one another, but they are still products of the machine. The machine is the illusion of happiness that was taught to us at a young age. We were trained to become goal oriented towards what our culture defines as success. We were also taught what thoughts and behaviors are unacceptable, and how to control our natural impulses/internal emotions. For example, in the modern world, men are not allowed to cry. If a man is seen crying, two things happen. Undoubtedly, others become sympathetic for the poor man. At the root of most humans, there is a longing to connect with others; to care for the wounded souls that present themselves so vulnerably. That is of course, on a primitive level. Let us not forget what civility has brought upon the human animal. Social order calls for role playing. Men are supposed to be the hunters (otherwise known as the bread winners) of our society. When they break character they lose credibility as that character. As a result, they are denied opportunities that they would otherwise be granted had they not broken character. This may seem irrelevant to a group of college protesters outside of the capital but think about what their real intentions are for doing such an act. Seemingly, they are just trying to make tuition rates affordable. After all, classes can be expensive and if you do not have financial support from family and/or friends, attending school can become much more difficult. But the idea of going to school is in itself a systematic approach to lving.

Hi, Sorry, but I see no indication here of clear analytic thinking. The main problem is that you have just written two long paragraphs. Have you learned about the standard essay structure?

Hi, Sorry, but I see no indication here of clear analytic thinking.
The main problem is that you have just written two long paragraphs.
Have you learned about the standard essay structure?
ie an introduction paragraph that states your overall position and thesis a paragraph for each of your main points, beginning with a topic sentence that explains what point the paragraph will discuss a conclusion paragraph that sums up and restates your position The reason for this is to enable the reader to easily follow your thinking.
What you have written just makes me think, as a reader, that you made no real attempt to organize your thoughts before you started to write.
