What's the difference between detest and hate in meaning?

Thanks again.

Hi AlpheccaStars,

Does 'dramatic' in dramatic effect mean sudden and surprising?

Does detest someone mean 'hate someone' but doesn't hate them very much? I mean if detest implies you dislike someone much more than hate?

Thank you very much.
