Was the first time

Can I say this?

-It was the first time that she has (not had here) made such a demonstration (=protest here) at the Vatican in recent years.

Here I'm talking about a past event, so 'was'; since this protest is still the first, the present perfect tense, not the past perfect tense, is used after 'that'. Do you agree with me that the sentence is correct?

OttoJ Can I say this? It sounds a little 'off'. You'd better match the tenses: 'It is the first time she has' or 'It was the first time she had'.
