was stolen

A: Why didn't you return my calls?

B: My cell phone was stolen/got stolen.

Which is correct? What's the difference?
Thanks.

Both are correct. was stolen is in a very slightly higher register, to my ear. got is quite idiomatic here, however, as got is often used with misfortunes: got hurt, got broken, got torn, got damaged, got ruined, etc.
