Was or is a memory

Hello
I posted the question below last week but I'm still not sure about the right context for them. Can they both be used for now or is only number 2 OK for now? Can somebody help me understand the difference?

1 It was a great memory of my trip
2 It is a great memory of my trip
Does number 1 mean the memory is no longer a great memory?
Thanks again
David
