Was looking for/looked for

A: Hey you, What are you up to today?

B: I was looking for a job all day./ I looked for a job all day.

Background: I had filled out some job applications but didn't got a job yet.

Hello, Do you think "Continuous tense" is much better than "Simple past" (looked for)? Is it because "all day" implies "over a period" and Continuous tense is suitable for that? Do you think Simple past works too, but with different implications?  Thanks for any feedback~~~

In the first place, 'Hey you' is very rude. I suggest: A: Hi, Jim. What have you been up to today?
