Was interested to read

Hi,

I was interested to read that scientists have found out how to talk to whales.

******

Michael Swan mentions this issue in his book, "Practical English Usage", page 278.

What does that sentence exactly mean?

Does it mean A: "I became interested in something because I read that scientists have found out how to talk to whales" or B: "I came to wish or want to read but not read it yet"?

Thanks Grammar Geek!

I guess you mean the sentence is of the meaning A, which means "I became interested BECAUSE I read~~".

No, not really.

You could read it, think "Oh, that's interesting" and then never think about it again. It's momentarily interesting. Or maybe you even tell someone about the interesting article you read. But you don't pursue the subject further.

Your version suggests you read about it, became more interested in the topic, and perhaps went on to learn more.

I undestand now...

This explanation of yours makes it so clear!!
