was inspired

Yeames(an artist) was inspired that childhood honesty and innocence could have disastrous consequences.

This sentence is from a article which describes a painting drawn by Yeames. Why here "inspire" is used as passive voice?

Top answer

It is presumably intended to mean that someone or something inspired him to feel that way. However, for me the sentence does not work properly.
