Was going to

What does 'was going to' mean? Is it something with the future in the past? Don't get it.
Yesterday I watched (or 'was watching? Please correct) 'Music and Lyrics' and there was a song I don't remember exactly.
But it was like:
I said I wasn't going to lose my head.... then ha goes my heart,
I wasn't going to fall in love again.....

What's the meaning?
Is it like 'I said I wouldn't lose my head' .... 'I wouldn't fall in love again'?
If so, what's the difference then?

Thanks

Thanks.

Only one thing left:

Was going to is similar to would.- speaking about the future at some time in the past.
Example:
Present:
He is going to call me this evening. = He will call me this evening.

But would and future mean something different, don't they?
I would play the piano if I haven't broken my finger.
-> you don't

Would has several uses:.

Would you help me please? (polite request)

I would go if I had the money. (Conditional; possibility)

When I was a child we would go on picnics every Sunday. (habitual past, like used to)

Yesterday he told me he would go, but today he said he wouldn't be able to. (future action in the past.)

There are some more, but they

Okay, and if I take the last sentence:
'Yesterday he told me he would go to the carnival.'

Yesterday: 'He': I'm going to go to the carnival today. (I know, you usually don't write 'going to go')

Today: I: Yesterday he told me he was going to go to the carnival.

It that correct? Or does it have to be: he told me he would go to the c

Yesterday: 'He': I'm going to go to the carnival today. (I know, you usually don't write 'going to go. It is fine, and quite common.)

Today: I: Yesterday he told me he was going to go to the carnival.

It that correct? Yes
Or does it have to be: he told me he would go to the carnival. -> If so, why?

Both are correct. T
