Grammar

Was brought.

Is the grammar in this sentence correct? I keep on hearing 'had been brought' in my head while I read it, and can not for the life of me figure out if there is actually anything wrong with the sentence as is.

"With the crack of thunder, her eyes were open. Amanda was brought back to reality, back to reality as it was."
