was born

Hello,

1. I was born in 1976.

I have already asked this question. Somebody on this forum told me that it is an active voice.

My teacher told me "no" it a passive voice.

Now I am very confused.

Please any forum guru could comment on it.

Thanks.

Hello Hanuman Your old thread is born . Who answered that "I was born in X" is an active voice? We (=Philip and me) said just that "I was born in X" is an idiomatic verbal phrase.

Hello hanuman_2000,

Why don't you get the active form/voice of this sentence from your class teacher and post the answer into this forum? So, we can analyze and discuss the validity of your class teacher's answer.

Hi,

I was born in 1976.

In my experience, this is a constant source of problems for learners. In any ESL class, I think you could spend an hour at any time, discussing this.

Errors come in many forms, eg I born in 1976 . . . . My mother borned me in 1976. And many others.

Here are some comments.
