Hi
Please tell me which is better here.
I was there the decorations were being done/ were done.
I think were being done is better, however, I want to know if simple past is OK can also be used.

I'm not sure if you mean this: When I was there, they were putting up the decorations. or When I was there, the decorations were in place.
