Was and If

Are these correct? If not, why? What do they mean?

1. I was gonna tell you later but I didn't want to leave you hanging if I didn't want it. (The 'if' part, it is in past tense? Does this referr back to what I thought aobut it? Is this reported speech?)

2. I was gonna tell you later but I don't want to leave you hanging if I don't want it. (The 'if' part here is in present tense. Does that mean that I'm not quoting myself from the past? )

Thanks.
