was able & could

Hi,

in this sentence, I was able to do that work can I replace was able
with could and say I could to do that work?
And are they completely equal? If not, what word/phrase is suitable to replace with the was able?
Thanks.

No, you shouldn't use could in that sentence. It makes it sound future or conditional.
