Warranty vs guarantee

I like watches. When I bought a watch, I see the words "This watch is under guarantee for one year from date of purchase." When I purchased another watch, I see the words "This watch is under warranty for one year from date of purchase."

I have bought quite a few watches over the years and I am confused by "warranty" and "guarantee". Why are both words used on different guarantee/warranty cards?
