Why is the use of progressive in the first one perfect but not in the second?
1. What point were you wanting to make?
2. I’m wanting to buy a new car .
The progressive isn't great in that first sentence. "

The progressive isn't great in that first sentence. I'd say, "What point were you trying to make?"

This looks some kind of Asian English. It would be better if it had want instead of the word wanting.
