I wanted to ask you about this question.
Maybe I wanted to ask you 40 years ago.
Or maybe I want to ask you now. (The simple past tense is sometimes used to make a current question more polite.)

Thank you. That was very clear.

I have another question regarding their use.

Are these sentences correct:
If I wanted to go I would ask you. (is will here possible instead of would?).
If I want to go I will ask you. (is would here possible instead of will?).

I am assuming the they are not possible, but would like your confirmation.
