Concerning the sentence below, what is the active counterpart to it?
e.g. Students want to be shown connections between facts
instead of spending their time memorizing dates and
formulas.
Assuming that the implied agent of the infinitival clause is some kind of people already known to the hearer so that it can be omitted,

The sentence is already active, since the main verb is 'want'. However, if you wish the adjunct to be in active voice, you will have to devise the subject:
