Wand, rod and stick

Hi!

Could you explain me the difference between wand, rod and stick.? Is a rod longer than a wand? Is a wand suppler and thinner than a stick?

I know the expression “a magic wand” and that electronic devices, such as a light pen, can be called a wand. Also there are “fishing rod” and “lightning rod”, “hockey stick” and “walking stick”. Do they differ in fields of use?

A wand can be any manageable size. Fairies' wands are smaller than wizard's wands because fairies are smaller than wizards (except for Pinball Wizards, which are the same size). Rods are generally sturdier, as they are usually used to support in some way, or to be wielded as quasi-weapons.

  • A stick is just a stick (like a piece of a tree) and can be used for anything you have a mind to, like support your aged body.
  • As you have already noticed, all 3 words have various uses in various fields.
