Can you see any difference in meaning between: "We have to wake up to/awaken to the possibility of war" and "He's finally woken up to/awoken to the fact that his marriage is over"? Their definitions are quite similar but "awaken to" strikes me as more formal. I can't think of anything else at the moment.
