What does "let go" mean in the following passage? Thanks so much.
"We let go a thousand worms in here to breed so we could sell 'em to fishermen."
Two men were trying to make business by having a worm ranch and trying to breed worms in a worm bed. Above is their answer when someone asks them what they are doing and I don't understand what they meant by "we let go".
