I have a question. In the sentence below, I know ‘check out’ is correct, but I wonder if ‘check’ is correct. Please answer.

I don't feel that 'check' on its own is quite right. We check things to be sure they are operating correctly, but when we check out things, we take a look at them, examine them. CJ

We check things to be sure they are operating correctly, but when we check out things, we take a look at them, examine them.
