Hello everyone,

Could you please tell me what you call the two examinations taken by students in my country? Our school year consists of two semesters. At the end of each semester, students attend an exam out of 60. Before that, they take another exam out of "20". They have two assessments each out of "10". The average is "100". If they get eg. 49, they fail and they have another chance to take another exam in September. Here my question is; can I call the exam at the end of the semester out of "60" (first attempt) and the one taken in September (second attempt)?

PS. Could you please tell me if we have a natural and common word for each used by natives?

Regards,

JA

We have no such system in the US. There are generally two big exams in each semester. The exam in the middle is called the "mid-term exam".
