The tailgate is the flat section on some vehicles that opens downward from the back. You can rest things on it.
"car back" is not idiomatic. It's "the back of the car", which is anything at the back part

Thank you, CJ! Actually, before posting my question, I had googled it but it all the cases I got pics of car trunks, with closed or open rear (the 5th) doors. So it wasn't very clear. Now I understand it much better.
