XSHe was kidnapped on December,21st.His body was found next day.
I'd say that was acceptable in BrE.

Thanks Fivejedjon for your answer
but Alfecca Starr said it is not correct to leave the definite article out, but now you are saying it was acceptable in British English.
but it is vague what do you mean by (was)?
you mean in the past it was acceptable to use "next day" without definite article or still it is acceptable in BrE?
give me more information please
Best regards

It is still acceptable.

I reported the direct I would say "It is acceptable" as the indirect I would say (that) it was acceptable.

As far as I am concerned if you use indirect speech, you don't need to change the present tense into the past if the information in direct speech is still true.
for example:
fivejedjon said" It is acceptable to use next day without definite article in BrE"
fivejedon said (that) it is acceptable to use next day without definite article in BrE.

There's no need for that. You have asked your question. That in itself suggests you would like an answer.

You are right. Backshifting was not essential in my indirect speech.
