When writing a letter, would it be correct to refer to the letter itself as "this correspondence", or does the word only apply to a dialog (multiple letters exchanged)? Thanks in advance, I had to pause while writing to a friend and now I'm curious.

Anonymous would it be correct to refer to the letter itself as "this correspondence" You could, but it would be taken as repellently pompous by a friend, I think.

I'm a new visitor to this site and I was hoping for an educated and informative answer to my question. Instead, I got a childish personal jab. Why the hostility? Sure, maybe it's an odd question, but doesn't that make it more interesting? Micawber, your own use of the language in your reply is both unaesthetic and counterproductive, which I have to say kind of reflects badly on your competence. M

I, personally, would not find a friend's use of 'this correspondence' of a single letter repellently pompous. I'd think it was 'ludicrously pompous'. I don't see MrM's words or mine as hostile or childish, and I really don't understand why you appear so upset.

Just one more reason to prohibit Anonymouses from posting responses, isn't it?
