Vocabulary

Hi, dear friends,i have a problem with the meaning of this "island dynamics in epitaxial crystal growth".first, i looked up epitaxial but it was usefulness.second i don't know what island dynamics is .I hope some one can help me.

Here is the part of article by Berta Sandberg,Sung Ha Kang, and Tony F.Chan:

A multilayer method was introduced by Chung and Vese where more than one level of a level set is used to represent the discontinuity of the image and is modeled after island dynamics in epitaxial crystal growth.

Minimization strategies have been proposed using the level set framework for improving region competition methods. I don't know how to translate region competition methods .are these methods based on regional competition?

Tnx in advance.

Does your last paragraph apply to crystal growth as well? I think you need to find a better article on epitaxial crystal growth. It obviously has to do with the relation of the growth to the axis of the crystal.

This is extremely difficult technical reading!

It is about growing crystals - snow flakes and diamonds are crystals. People want to grow all sorts of crystals, because they are beautiful and useful in electronics.

How do scientists grow artificial crystals?

They start with a crystal surface (called the substrate), made of a different material than the end p

I guess my "obviously" was not so obvious. Emotion: embarrassed
