[vocab question] valediction

Dear Users,

\I've been trying to broaden my vocabulary lately and I've subscribed to one of the popular "word of the day" services. One of the words that I've received is valediction which means an act of bidding farwell. This words both looks and sounds wonderful and I'd like to use it somehow (at least in poetry or writing.)

1) How often do you see/hear this word?
2) What would be your reaction to someone who used this word while talking to you in a casual conversation?
3) May I ask you for an example of how you'd use this word?

Thanks!
