Vocab. question no. 71: air-conditioning expressions

Hello there,

Let's say the room feels a bit chilly but we don't want to turn the AC totally off. Do we say:

1) Can we turn the temperature up a bit?
2) Can we turn the AC down a little?
3) Can we turn down the AC a little?
4) Can we turn the AC up?

Are there any better expressions than those?

Cheers

Mister Micawber#2 and #3 are what spring to my mind.
Would you say the other two are not native-like?

That is how I would classify them; they are confusing.

Thank you.

Are there any other handy expressions I should be familiar with when it comes to changing the temperature of the air conditioner?

And by the way, does this sentence actually make sense? ...changing the temperature of the air conditioner? After all, it's not the AC itself that has a certain temperature but the air that comes out of it.

None springs to mind. Just 'turn up/down the air conditioning'.

Not really. The one I quoted at the top of this post is perfectly fine.

Does your "no" mean "no, this sentence doesn't make any sense" ? So... We can't say change the temperature of the air conditioner.

PS How about these two:

Let's turn the AC do

No means that to me the air conditioner itself does not change temperature—but that's what it sounds like'

Fine.

You are actually changing the 'setting' for the desired resulting temperature. Since many businesses and homes have a 'thermostat', which (in the summer) adjusts the air-conditioning and (in the winter) adjusts the heating, it is a matter of choice what you decide to say--as long as the listener understands.
