Vocab question no. 62: collocation for + honor

Hello there,

One can say to lose honor. Can we say to win honor? How would you rephrase the following sentence?

A group of Chinese athletes went to London Olympic Games and won 5 gold medals. By doing so they won honor for their country.

It doesn't sound good, does it...

Thanks

Perfect Stranger It doesn't sound good, does it... I think it sounds OK. The usual collocation is 'gain honour', I think.

I would say "the London Olympic games" too.

A variation might be "A group of Chinese athletes went tot he London Olympic Games and earned great honor for their country when they won 5 Gold medals."

You could also say ''they brought honour to their country'.
